This past week in ISM was mostly geared towards getting ready for the research showcase in January, as well as getting things finalized for my original work. I have to admit that the date snuck up on me a bit this year, as I didn't realize that I had just a month left until my original work is due. I have been so caught up in college applications and in the process of getting confirmed as an unpaid intern at U.T. Southwestern that I have not spent as much time as I should have preparing myself for this original work or communicating with Dr. Mansour. I have, however, been down to clinic a few times in between, and that has been incredibly educational, however I would really like to get into the operating rooms to observe surgeries this year. One of the patients I saw in clinic had a 50 centimeter tumor that weighed close to 4 pounds, which was completely astonishing. Often times, people expect tumors to be quite large, but in reality they are rather small, however this tumor fulfilled all of the stereotypes and misconceptions people often have about tumors and cancer. It was really quite astonishing, as it had to grow over the course of a decade or so.
