This week has definitely been the beginning of a new chapter in my ISM journey this year. On Thursday I went on a mentor visit to discuss my final product and I am incredibly exciting about starting the process of completing that product. Dr. Mansour and I decided that my final product would be most effective if there was an aspect of real-world application, and so we brainstormed various ideas to help me to gain that knowledge. In the end, we decided that for my final product I would analyze data from actual patients looking at weight loss patterns at 1, 3, 6, 9, 12, and 15 months post-operatively. After completing some primary research, I would then compile the data into various graphs and charts depicting various trends or patterns throughout the 15-month span. This would apply real-life learning to my study, and it would help me to understand some of the effects patients face after a major operation. From there, I would complete a descriptive paper depicting that various trends and research I completed throughout the development of my final product. Dr. Mansour hopes to get this paper published in a medical journal, which would be an incredibly opportunity for me. I would be able to say that as a junior in high school, I helped perform work on a paper published in a scientific journal which would help with both college and medical school applications.
