This week was an incredibly exciting week. I am incredibly excited to say that Dr. John Mansour agreed to be my as of November 3rd. Dr. Mansour is a surgical oncologist at U.T. Southwestern Medical Center who focuses on gastrointestinal tumors. Even though I originally thought I was going to pursue a more neurosurgical route after a couple of interviews, I decided that I wanted to study surgical oncology more in depth. Neurosurgery was a bit of a shot in the dark, and I would much rather prefer to study something that I know more about and am more interested in. I am incredibly excited to begin the mentor process, as I think it is such an incredible opportunity for us to learn first hand about a possible career in our future. I am also a bit nervous, as I am unsure of what the future looks exactly like for me, but I am challenging myself to work through that and overcome the need to always know what is happening. One thing I am definitely not looking forward to is the massive amounts of paperwork I have to go through, but in my opinion, it is worth it in comparison to the incredibly opportunities I am going to get.
