This week was incredibly eye opening about college and my future. On Wednesday, we made our field trip to University of North Texas. At UNT, we were permitted to sit in on various college classes of our choosing. I chose to sit in on three classes: Neuroscience I, Endocrinology, and Contemporary Biology. All of these classes were incredibly interesting, but I found myself the most interested by the neuroscience class. In the class, we discussed the structure and function of various portions of the brain. This class continued to fuel my desire to work closely with the brain, and it encourages me to consider neurosurgery. I am still unsure if I want to focus on neurosurgery or if I want to focus simply on surgical oncology. From what I have researched and understand, neurosurgery involves not only the removal of brain tumors, but also trauma surgery and various treatments for other ailments. This kind of work definitely interests me, and I am striving to keep an open mind in regards to what I study. Because of the fact that I still have over 5 years before I decide what I am going to focus on, my desires and interests may change. I am definitely going to keep an open mind, and hopefully I come to a decision soon.
